As the former book "Il retore interno" (1999), this paper focuses the Medieval and Renaissance psychology of passions, a psychology which gave a strong causal role to the "imaginative power" in the arousal of passions. This kind of psychology of emotions could be used also in a proto-anthropological way, while discussing of the typical psychological dispositions of the "rough people" ("rudes"), as shown by several authors such as Galeotto Marzio, Andrea Cattani, Cornelius Agrippa, Pietro Pomponazzi and others. But, on the other side, these Renaissance authors saw Imagination also as a powerful source of real changes which can involve both mind and body - and a source which could be also wisely used, as Giordano Bruno mainly pointed out.
