Abstract

The images of art-in painting, sculpture, photography and cinema- are often invented by literature and rhetoric depiction-by ékphrasis. By this perspective, the modern relationship between text and image, verbal and visual-not only artistic but ordinary too- is founded by Baudelaire’s works of poetry and critical prose about art. The mutual boundaries between literature, arts and visual culture, between the fashion and the anachronism are tested and created by his notional and lyrical ekphrasis, by a description which constitutes a ancient work of art as a mundane lifeform, and viceversa, while designating and mentioning it.
