Management of healthcare organisations has become the object of scientific and institutional debate at the European level in more recent times. The development of strategic studies in the field of healthcare in Europe mainly coincides with the process reforming the healthcare systems, mainly aimed at modifying the context of public and private actors. Indeed, it is the greatest environmental uncertainty that highlighted the urgency to provide these organisations with new management tools. In the light of these considerations, the article discusses the opportunity to conceive for such organizations innovative managerial models and tools, able to enhance their originality, rather than to replicate instruments designed in other historical phases for other economic realities. To this end, the article reviews the state of the art of management studies in healthcare, emphasizing the most innovative contributions, that seem to be more capable to renew the traditional approaches to management.
