A strong challenge for the organizations involved in higher education is to provide in-depth theoretical knowledge combined with the ability to apply knowledge to real contexts. Teaching should improve students' ability to make decisions and solve problems, both individually and collaboratively, to better face real world situations. The paper presents a case study about the introduction of the collaborative environment CoFFEE (Collaborative Face to Face Educational Environment) and its educational approach within the DAOSan Masters course in Leadership in Health-care Services at the University of Salerno (Italy). First, the pedagogical and technological aspects of CoFFEE-supported activities are presented. Then, the context of the DAOSan problem-solving-based approach is described. The case study of a training scenario is discussed, in order to draw a methodology fostering reflexivity, collaboration and situated learning in management training. It appears that the CoFFEE-enhanced approach to collaborative problem-solving can foster student reflexivity and involvement, enabling participants to better understand the relationship between both theoretical and case-based knowledge acquired during the course and the real problems that can be faced in healthcare organizations. Participants seemed to improve some of the “life skills” that are part of their professional identity, such as collaboration, reflection, communication and creativity. In addition, they seemed more aware of the relevant aspects of the human-centered approach in healthcare.
