The present paper presents the most relevant results of a wide campaign aimed to assess and quantify the seismic vulnerability of some RC school buildings constructed in Italy between the ’60 and the ’70 whose material properties and structural details have been reproduced as a result of in situ surveys and lab-tests of material samples. Seismic assessment and vulnerability evaluation are basically founded on non-linear pushover analyses carried out on the numerical models constructed for simulate the structural behavior. Numerical results in terms of displacement capacity and, consequently, seismic vulnerability can be usually affected by the hypotheses and the analytical formulations assumed in the model for reproducing the non linear behaviour of structural members. Lumped-plasticity-based models have been utilized in the proposed analyses adopting simple and well-established relationships for describing non-linear behaviour of RC members. Final discussion will be aimed to emphasize both the particular behaviour which characterizes structures of given geometric and mechanical properties and the general trends followed by seismic vulnerability of the considered class of buildings.
