Healthcare informatics and related computerization represent a fundamental driving force for the evolution and development of healthcare organizations. Health information systems (in the broadest sense, as proposed by AICA with its professional certification denominated ‘ECDL Health’) are scheduled to become more and more important in the years to come, by virtue of the benefits that business informatics can produce in the health sector. In particular, health computerization can aid in pursuing transparency, added value in terms of health not only as regards performance and responsibilities, but also as regards organizational processes and related information flows. Our study, a conceptual paper, intends to develop a theoretical framework relative to the multidimensional value of health transparency, analyzing health information systems in this perspective, resulting from business computerization; in addition, by means of a content analysis, we recommend a more integrated ‘ECDL Health’ Syllabus.
