Abstract

Images of women in Roman Age. From the epigraphic research, carried on in places that, everything considering, are suburban as Benevento and the zone of Salerno, a figure of a not conventional woman appears, "auctor fortunae suae" in family as in society and inclined to unembarrassed behaviour. This change promotes the birth and the use, in the funerary epigraphy, of a particular dictionary to point out the defunct wives' virtues and qualities.
