Objective: To measure the intra-sinu s pressure and the maxillary sinus functional efficienc y (MSFE) in individuals with chr onic facial pain after conserv ative or convention al endosco pic maxillary surgery , a s well as in contr ols. Method: Sinus manometry was perf ormed 5 times during inhalatio n. Results: The resemblan ce of pressure values comparing those treated with minimally invasive surgery and contr ols was remarkabl e, while traditional surgery significa ntly decreased intrasinu sal pressures. The MSFE was 100% in the three tested times for contr ols, close to that in those submitted to minimally invasive surger y (98.3%, 98.8%, and 98. 0%) and significantly impaired after convention al surgery (48.8% , 52.1% , 48.5 %, p,0.01) . All patients submitted to minimally invasiv e surgery remained pain-free after three months of surgery , relative to 46. 7% of the submitted to convention al surgery (p,0.05 ). Conclusion: Minimally invasive sinus surgery is associated with functionali ty of the chambers that resemble what is found in normal individuals.
