We are constantly facing the uncertainty of future. Like smugglers navigating a river in the darkness, we experience the passage of time but also the subjective temporality, trying to orientate ourselves in the immediate future, equipped with our capability to produce signs and with our own set of goals. One of the theoretical problems psychology is still dealing with is that of the relationship between time and temporality. After discussing some theoretical issues about time and temporality, we use the smuggler metaphor to introduce our time-as-context model, in which we try to relate different layers of the experience of time and temporality with the developmental processes.

Abstract

We are constantly facing the uncertainty of future. Like smugglers navigating a river in the darkness, we experience the passage of time but also the subjective temporality, trying to orientate ourselves in the immediate future, equipped with our capability to produce signs and with our own set of goals. One of the theoretical problems psychology is still dealing with is that of the relationship between time and temporality. After discussing some theoretical issues about time and temporality, we use the smuggler metaphor to introduce our time-as-context model, in which we try to relate different layers of the experience of time and temporality with the developmental processes.
