Abstract

The task our age seems to call us irrevocably to is to inhabit the disenchantment, an inescapable fate, in a virile way. Through a worldly, secular aesthetics, humans should forget values and absolutes for the sake of an immanence capable of containing and judging the finitude of the existence and the catastrophe of sense. Fostering a nostalgia for the absolute, the immense void, this darkness in the middle, has led, on the one hand, to the arise of a number of substitute faiths and cults of the irrational, which often express a subjective relativism; on the other hand, it has allowed for a secular religiosity, a number of a-religious-asceticisms, which lead to a “religiosity without churches or religions” (Demetrio). Nihilism as well as a progressive reality desacralization seems to be an apparently orbital pedagogical issue, but, in the end, it reduces the reflexivity area, which is typical of a knowledge focused on the education of the human being conceived as humanization in the Kantian sense. In the era of the thought of proximity, of the errancy (Vattimo) and the crisis, pedagogy has to face the deconstruction of the future, its loss, and to think about a new possible ‘commencement’. Analysing Nietzsche’s man of disenchantment and Sloterdijk’s acrobat, this essay tries to problematize the residual narrability of the educational fact-event. The question that underlies these notes and runs like a thread through the whole argumentation concerns the possibility of reducing education to breeding, to an anthropotecnics erected on training (Sloterdijk, 2010). Can education coincide with a sort of existential acrobatics aimed at promoting/producing the radical transformation that obeys what, thanks to Sloterdijk’s reactualization of Rilke’s verse, becomes a real commandment, a revolutionary imperative: You must change your life? Again: is it pedagogically possible to inhabit the disenchantment as well as the progressive erosion of the sacred at a time when even the future, the only Camusian transcendence of a godless people, is taken away? Will we be able to face the open horizon of our responsibility (Jonas), pedagogically accepting the responsibility of the present?
