The study presented in this paper investigates the feasibility of SRP and SRG systems in improving the seismic performance of exterior RC beam-column joints. An experimental program was organized which includes eight specimens representative of existing beam-column subassemblies with inadequate seismic details and made of medium-low concrete compressive strength. Of these, seven were strengthened by using different SRP/SRG layouts while the remaining one was used as benchmark (unstrengthened member). Once damaged, two specimens were also re-tested after being retrofitted with SRG. Tests were performed at the Materials and Structural Testing Laboratory of the University of Salerno (Italy) by subjecting the specimens to reversed cyclic forces applied at the beam tip by keeping the column under a constant axial load. Test results have provided useful information on the adopted strengthening systems in terms of strength, ductility and energy dissipation capacity. In particular, the comparison between the cyclic response exhibited by the unstrengthened member and the behaviour of the strengthened ones has allowed to evaluate the effectiveness of the different strengthening solutions examined in this study.
