The paper is about the theme of God’s judgement from the messianic point of view of Jewish German philosopher Hermann Cohen. First of all, the author explains that Cohen’s messianic prophetism cannot be reduced to the interpretation that thinkers like Karl Löwith and Jürgen Moltmann give to Christian eschatology. Cohen goes beyond the mythical and eschatological thought which defines Universal Judgement as the Last Judgement. According to Cohen, rather, God’s judgement occurs every day allowing the redemption of mankind in the world and in time. In monotheism, polytheistic fate and doom are replaced by judgement and redemption, and God’s judgement is based on the attributes of justice and love. God who judges is not God who absolves or condemns according to the principle of retribution but God of remission, redemption and reconciliation.
