New documents preserved in the Archivio Orsini in Archivio Storico Capitolino allow the author to clarify the history of Orsini palace at Isola Farnese by attributing the design to architect Donato Bramante. He was charged by Pope Julius II in 1508 to design the palaces of Gian Giordano Orsini, husband of the pope’s daughter Felice della Rovere. The Bramante’s original structures, now are recognized; they were hidden in the second half of the Sixteenth century from Jacopo Barocci da Vignola for the Farnese family, the new owners of the palace that obliterated the Orsini memory. Such important findings had been possible in the frame of the project The Orsini and Savelli in Papal Rome. Patronage and Arts of Ancient Families from Feudalism to the European Baroque Courts, whose second research unit (University of Salerno) is supervised by the author.
