Despite a radical modern skepticism exerted against a meaningful set of written sources, Parmenides of Elea remains the most probable discoverer of the Earth’s sphericity and of her division in five zones (pentazonon). The framework of geographical knowledge we can reconstruct for Elea in the VI and V century B.C. is in accordance with the best greek (technical) sources.
