This article tries to tackle the subject of self-formation through a pedagogical recentralisation of the autobiographical writing. If, on the one hand, autobiography is the space of an identity narration that refuses to define itself orphan and does not forget its mythopoeic nature, on the other hand it is the place where, through the mediation of the sign that turns into memory, imbued with sense and temporality as it is, the ego immediately realizes to be Other. Autós and bíos are interwoven, intertwined by graphein, but the sign, the writing, which can’t escape the tyranny of opacity, is also the place where, by telling about himself, giving himself up through self-narration, letting the true transit, the ego turns into relationship, and this latter is already an expecting story (Demetrio, 1996). The biography of the existence is that writing process which natures itself freely, the space where the ego becomes vector of experiences and cedes to a constant, infinite movement that fruitfully creates and re-creates, reads and re-reads, writes and re-writes itself. A life that masters itself, dominates, appropriates, through that mediation element that is graphein, and gives meaning to the existence through a self-reflection that feeds on a narrative atmosphere, on that multitemporal plot where past, present and future coexist in a stratified, not mere chronological sequence. If, on the one hand, self-writing is a way to see oneself through and to leave room to the occurrence of a formative, re-creational moment through a constant and conscious reflection on the own past, on the other hand it is also the place where a re-creation of that paidetic agency which is the school can take shape. Starting with a preliminary analysis, which tends to detect eccentric aspects peculiar to the writing that says “I”, as well as educational implications of self-narration, an attempt will be made to let the discourse on school go beyond mere formal terms by inhabiting those literary spaces that disregard any pedagogical intentionality, in order to seek, in lights and shades of texts of authors such as Antonio Scurati, Sandro Onofri and Marco Rossi, a possible place to focus the teaching-learning, teacher-learner relationship through a singular, divergent expansion of the pedagogical view. On this basis, textual passages of the authors mentioned above, drawn from selected novels, shall act as a pre-text, both in a figurative and in a metaphorical sense, in order to narrate, by the means of a written, evoked word, the educational relationship between adolescents and teachers in that institutional community place that is the school. These passages intentionally or involuntarily offer cross-sections of and about the school, of and about adolescence phenomenology, which lead us, silent readers, to reflect upon educational issues moving along argumentative coordinates that transcend, perhaps, the very intentions of the authors. These textual places, formally not representable in the pedagogical frame, shall serve as valuable occasions to detect educational specificities that derive from that chaotic, noisy, hardly audible and foreseeable world that is the school.
