Abstract

Numerous studies in criticism, historiography and aesthetics have looked at the extent of Dante’s iconopoetic corpus. The proliferation of images in the Commedia has been condensed into symbols and icons enclosed in the collective imagination by Gustave Doré’s illustrations, whose language, enhancing the universal character of literary culture (Abruzzese 2007), proved to be a model for subsequent translations from silent films to contemporary digital transmedia, including videogames.
