Within the opus by Mr. Filangieri, his unique viewpoints and ideas on power within an economical framework and its spreading and subdvision, as well as its use, have a significant importance. indeed, power was to be the seed of the most fruitful considerations Mr. Filangieri carried out in the field of economics. Therefore, our aim for this study revolves around bringing –considering its economical, social, political and jurisdictional features- the effective innovation his thinking brought on to the field. Both Mr. Filangieri and his opus were global in their scope, as he was an active participant in the happenings, feelings and ideas of his time and his work consistently referenced Locke, Rousseau, Smith, Montesquieu, Franklin and their works. Considering economics in particular, Mr. Filangieri strove to go beyond the ‘Smithian paradigm’, as he underlined how in Southern Italy freedom of trade was to be encouraged, while avoiding and combating the excessive concentration of wealth and promoting a more equal redistribution of land. It is indeed true that wealth - were it to be founded on a wise and effective Science of legislation – would have been a symbol of corruption no longer, rather becoming a source of virtue and development, following the vein of thought Mr. Genovesi ascribed to civil economy, where ‘public happyness’ was warranted by economic development. We built our essay around this complex connection between issues, considered for their political, social and economic implications.
