The aim of this article is the illustration of current situation of the Brazilian trade union- ism. The Brasil is one of the Brics countries that have a long tradition of corporative syn- dicate also for the regime dictatorial that interested the country for 20 years (1964-1985). After the exit of military dictatorship, based on a strong intervention state’s in the economy and in labor relations, the trade unions leave in the country a new leadership in the in- dustrial relations end in the new politic context, although there are many authors that in- sist on the permanence of the corporate character of the trade union system. Then the decade of the 90s characterized by restructuring and flexibility of the labor market, the trade unions have found a new leadership both for the best economic conditions, both for the advent of progressive governments progressive governments led by the PT, a political party with close ties to the main trade union organization in the country. With the eco- nomic and political recent crisis the role of the central trade unions, however, goes to meet from new challenges both to respond to new demands for flexibility in the labor laws both the new conservative-reactionary political framework which has in program a strong re- duction of social protection system.
