In the present work, an analysis of technical efficiency is carried out for Italian municipalities for the first time. Both parametric and FDH non-parametric frontier techniques are utilised. A novel feature of the study is the analysis of the link between technical efficiency and some measures of municipalities' managerial capability and product quality.
