The outcome of the recent reform of the electric energy sector in Italy has resulted in development in terms of completing the process of full liberalisation and market competitiveness, through “electricity derivatives”. With widespread use of these financial tools, operators will be able, above all, to deal efficaciously with risks connected to high price variability of electricity. The present paper aims to analyse the future role of the innovative “parallel” financial market of electricity derivatives, to national level.
