The present paper deals with the formulation of a mechanical model of a reinforced concrete beam strengthened by externally bonded FRP sheets. The proposed model assumes elastic orthotropic behavior of the FRP wrapping, elastic-plastic behavior of the concrete core, and adhesive FRP-concrete contact. Particular attention is devoted to shear deformation of the FRP wrapping, which is described as a thin-walled beam, and interfacial FRP-concrete stress distribution.
