Seismic assessment and retrofitting of existing structures is one of the most challenging themes of Research in Structural Engineering. An organic framework for assessing seismic performance of existing RC structures, often designed without considering earthquake-induced effects, is the first subject of the present paper. Fur-thermore, a rational strategy is outlined for achieving seismic retrofitting of RC structures by rationally com-bining two different refurbishment techniques working both at the member- and structure-level. Finally, a brief application is proposed for pointing out the practical aspects of the proposed assessment procedure and retrofitting strategy.

Abstract
Seismic assessment and retrofitting of existing structures is one of the most challenging themes of Research in Structural Engineering. An organic framework for assessing seismic performance of existing RC structures, often designed without considering earthquake-induced effects, is the first subject of the present paper. Fur-thermore, a rational strategy is outlined for achieving seismic retrofitting of RC structures by rationally com-bining two different refurbishment techniques working both at the member- and structure-level. Finally, a brief application is proposed for pointing out the practical aspects of the proposed assessment procedure and retrofitting strategy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
