Abstract
In this paper we argue that, in spite of the communis opinio, the Latin word religio is a taxon describing the notion of religion in ancient Latin text and defining a separate sphere of the Roman culture, and that it has gained this semantic value before the rise of Christianity in Roman society. This conclusion is supported by a philological analysis of the usage of religio in Latin archaic and classical texts.File in questo prodotto:
