This article provides an overview of particle verbs in the Romance languages. In particular, I survey morpho-syntactic, semantic and aspectual properties of these constructions, as well as their current distribution in use, their common features, and the differences among the Romance languages. A section is devoted to the origins of Romance particle verbs and to their characteristics and diffusion during the Middle Ages.
