In this work the non-linear rheology of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT)/Polyethylene and MWNT/Poly(1-butene) composites was investigated. Nanocomposites with MWNT content ranging between 0.5 and 5 wt% were prepared. The viscosity flow curve was evaluated by start-up shear flow measurements. Increasing the MWNT content in the nanocomposite, an increase in the viscosity of the polymer matrices and a shear thinning behaviour at low shear rates occurred. Positive first normal stress differences were measured for all nanocomposites in the shear rate range analyzed. The shear flow induced isothermal crystallization of the MWNT/Poly(1-butene) composite was also investigated.
