Oxidative procedures leading to disulfides, sulfoxides, sulfones, diselenides, selenoxides, selenones, ditellurides, telluroxides, tellurones, and other derivatives at different oxidation states are illustrated in this chapter. First, metal-catalyzed and metal-free oxidations of different classes of organic sulfur, selenium, and tellurium compounds are described. The last part of the chapter will focus on asymmetric oxidations to obtain enantioenriched sulfoxides and selenoxides by chemical and biological systems. Literature from 1990 to mid-2012 is covered.
