The representations of cities viewed from the sea are very ancient and had always privileged by travelers, because they allowed an overview of the city and its environmental insertion. Many architects, from Nineteen Century, also used to represent the towns from a raised point, able to offer a more detached vision and the connection between territory, inhabited centers and landscape. Through the analysis of historical images realized by some German architects and the numerous sketches produced by Le Corbusier during his trips, the paper aims to analyze these types of representations that often translates a difference of purposes and approches to urban places.

Abstract
The representations of cities viewed from the sea are very ancient and had always privileged by travelers, because they allowed an overview of the city and its environmental insertion. Many architects, from Nineteen Century, also used to represent the towns from a raised point, able to offer a more detached vision and the connection between territory, inhabited centers and landscape. Through the analysis of historical images realized by some German architects and the numerous sketches produced by Le Corbusier during his trips, the paper aims to analyze these types of representations that often translates a difference of purposes and approches to urban places.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
