This paper describes the construction and revision phases of the NooJ English Simple Words Electronic Dictionary (NESWED). As a worldwide greatly appreciated NLP software environment, today NooJ is used by a large international community of researchers to process several languages and to analyze texts dealing with multiple and diverse fields of knowledge. The most basic part of NooJ lingware consists of monolingual electronic dictionaries that need to be continually tested and updated. However, before we started this project, an efficient and reliable NESWED had not yet been built, even if the necessity to dispose of such a dictionary has always been strongly felt by the community who gathers around NooJ.
