The paper studies young people conditions in the metropolitan area of Naples. It analyses youth life cycle, living conditions; civic participation; life projects and representations. The paper presents findings from an empirical research carried out in 2015 on a sample of young people living inthe metropolitan area of Naples. The aim is to identify clusters of young people on the basis of educational, familiar, social and living conditions, participative practices and life representations. The study contributes to identify policy directions for development by helping to detect reasons for decline, marginalization and stagnation of some urban system. Weaknesses deriving from the city of Naples and its conurbations may have more severe consequences on young people. Indeed, young people as unit of analysis seem to be particularly interesting as they represent the future growth possibilities and the potential for activism, participation and social innovation.
