Abstract

Living and city are two inseparably linked words, if it’s true that the city is a collective human construction in which a community shapes a common idea of living. Therefore, every city builds its own form time after time, even through the form of its houses, which are expressed by the ways of living a community develops in its history. Understanding and interpreting some possible variations and meanings of living in relation to a specific theme of architecture has been the goal of the course of Architecture and Architectural Design I at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Salerno: students’ task was to investigate the theme of living from three possible points of view: the collective housing, the hotel and the students housing. The selected sites for these projects are three small void areas in the historic centre of Naples, in the Montesanto district.
