The debate about an integrated approach to planning, regulation and management of coastal areas has recently focused on the sources of information made available at the national and international level. The demand for data of land cover/land use has been growing both for research purposes and for policy aimed at monitoring coastal landscape transformations. This paper provides a brief review of databases and specific surveys that are relevant to this issue.
