The essay explores the ways in which festivals can become incubators of a cosmopolitan culture. What features should a festival that promotes transnational experiences have in order to become a ‘cosmoscape’, or a space that is capable of encouraging the formation of (real or imagined) cosmopolitan social ties? I will try to answer this question by carrying out a case study. In particular, my work focuses on the 2013 edition of the Festival of Europe (Festival d’Europa), which took place in Florence from the 7th to the 12th of May. Through the investigation of this ‘special’ event, my intention is to offer an empirical contribution to the understanding of cosmopolitanization processes, centered on Europe and festivals.

Abstract
The essay explores the ways in which festivals can become incubators of a cosmopolitan culture. What features should a festival that promotes transnational experiences have in order to become a ‘cosmoscape’, or a space that is capable of encouraging the formation of (real or imagined) cosmopolitan social ties? I will try to answer this question by carrying out a case study. In particular, my work focuses on the 2013 edition of the Festival of Europe (Festival d’Europa), which took place in Florence from the 7th to the 12th of May. Through the investigation of this ‘special’ event, my intention is to offer an empirical contribution to the understanding of cosmopolitanization processes, centered on Europe and festivals.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
