Abstract

Paola Riccòra (real name Emilia Vaglio), Neapolitan playwright, during the 1st world war finds maintenance working as translator of French pochade, when her husband was to the war front. She decided then to use the male pseudonym of Paolo Riccòra, to avoid any censorships and defamatory charges because of "licentiousness" of the French repertoire. Only later it was revealed her female identity becoming Paola Roccòra, playwright required by the Neapolitan theatrical world. Her refined culture combines her peaceful modernity of being a woman, her roles of mother, worker, wife and artist with no scandals or eccentricity, sensitively contributing to the diffusion of the French theatrical culture in Neapolitan scene (on the wake of Scarpetta) representing one of the few cases of theatrical female authors in the Naples of the time.
