We report a word-picture interference experiment where pictures corresponding to verbs were named in presence of semantically related and unrelated distracters which were nouns and verbs. The expected semantic interference effect was stronger for target-distracter pairs not sharing grammatical class information. This outcome corroborates the hypothesis that grammatical class shapes lexical representations, since its pre-activation through the distracter-word modulates the expected interference induced by semantically related targets.

Abstract
We report a word-picture interference experiment where pictures corresponding to verbs were named in presence of semantically related and unrelated distracters which were nouns and verbs. The expected semantic interference effect was stronger for target-distracter pairs not sharing grammatical class information. This outcome corroborates the hypothesis that grammatical class shapes lexical representations, since its pre-activation through the distracter-word modulates the expected interference induced by semantically related targets.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
