The district “Balzac-Touraine-Marroniers”, located in the municipality of Vitry-sur-Seine, south-east of Paris, since 1996 is considered ZUS and since 2007 it is part of an urban restructuring plan. The urban settlement was born in the 60s as an avant-garde neighborhood and as a response to a primary need of the working population of the capital city. By following historical and political changes, the buildings were emptied until they reached a situation of deterioration from a social and material point of view. State laws stimulated social diversity through the diversification of the urban complex, rejected the social stigmatization of the inhabitants, relaunched economic activity through infrastructures and services and promoted the social and professional insertion of the inhabitants. This contribution, starting from the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data collected with semi-direct interviews, aims to demonstrate how the architectural and urban redevelopment can be a valid response to the social degradation and privileged opportunity to rebuild entire local identities in the renewed panorama of European citizens.

Abstract
This contribution, starting from the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data collected with semi-direct interviews, aims to demonstrate how the architectural and urban redevelopment can be a valid response to the social degradation and privileged opportunity to rebuild entire local identities in the renewed panorama of European citizens.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
