Gender "testimonial literature", had its official recognition in 1970 with the institution of the Casa de las Américas Prize, being in the jury Rodolfo Walsh, Raul Roa and Ricardo Pozas. It originated with the Relato de un naúfrago (1955) by Gabriel García Márquez, and has since kept the character of "testimonies against ..."; written by 'castaways' (such as survivors, former hostages, former detainees, thorny and/or easy witnesses.). What, in the end, is offered is a history of "gender' in Latin America which will give special emphasis to the genre of co-authored 'journalistic testimony".
