This chapter describes the phases of the diffusion of Carlo Valgulio’s Prooemium in Musicam Plutarchi ad Titum Pirrhynum during the sixteenth century. In particular, it shows how the Prooemium gradually loses its function as a paratext to assume the character of an autonomous treatise.
