This work is aimed to demonstrate the problems raised by the use of the blockchain technology, in terms of the applicability of the GDPR discipline. The blockchain, infact, does not seem compatible with the regulation offered by the GDPR, which has been modelled on a centralized data collection system. For this reason, the protection of personal data should be based on legal solutions capable of responding to the challenges of a technology which always invents new models and new tools.
