This introductory essay focuses on the concept of sustainable library and takes stock of the relation between libraries and Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030, not least in the light of the Covid-19 global crisis. It also tries to define a possible new paradigm of sustainable library in response to the growing complexity of the contemporary world. Accordingly, some reflections on the potential impact of sustainable culture and sustainable thinking on the disciplinary horizons of Library and Information Science are proposed. The introduction closes with a brief presentation of the eleven essays included in this collective book.
