A method for measuring the quantity of super absorbent polymers (SAP) in a sample derived from absorbent sanitary products comprising at least one portion of a portion of cellulose and/or a portion of plastic in addition to a portion of SAP. The SAP contained in the sample comprise polymers of linear polyacrylate (LPA) and/or polymers of cross-linked polyacrylate (CLP A), the method comprises the steps of: a) placing a first aliquot of the sample in an aqueous solution comprising hydrogen peroxide and obtaining a suspension comprising a solid fraction SF1 and a liquid fraction LF1, b) after a period of time T1separating said solid fraction SF1 from said liquid fraction LF1, wherein said liquid fraction LF1 comprises the SAP portion made soluble by said aqueous solution comprising hydrogen peroxide, and said solid fraction SF1 comprises at least one of said cellulose portion and/or said plastic portion, c) weighing said solid fraction SF1, d) calculating the quantity of SAP contained in said sample as a function of the weight of said first portion of the sample and the weight of said solid fraction SF1.

Abstract

A method for measuring the quantity of super absorbent polymers (SAP) in a sample derived from absorbent sanitary products comprising at least one portion of a portion of cellulose and/or a portion of plastic in addition to a portion of SAP. The SAP contained in the sample comprise polymers of linear polyacrylate (LPA) and/or polymers of cross-linked polyacrylate (CLP A), the method comprises the steps of: a) placing a first aliquot of the sample in an aqueous solution comprising hydrogen peroxide and obtaining a suspension comprising a solid fraction SF1 and a liquid fraction LF1, b) after a period of time T1separating said solid fraction SF1 from said liquid fraction LF1, wherein said liquid fraction LF1 comprises the SAP portion made soluble by said aqueous solution comprising hydrogen peroxide, and said solid fraction SF1 comprises at least one of said cellulose portion and/or said plastic portion, c) weighing said solid fraction SF1, d) calculating the quantity of SAP contained in said sample as a function of the weight of said first portion of the sample and the weight of said solid fraction SF1.
