This chapter starts with an introduction to nanocatalysts and nanoparticles for water and wastewater treatment. Then the attention is devoted to the advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for the removal of water pollutants, underlying the advantages of AOPs with respect to the traditional technologies actually used in the treatment of polluted water. For their importance, Fenton and photo-Fenton processes and heterogeneous photocatalysis are described with high details, presenting some catalytic formulations that can be used in the degradation of organic pollutants commonly present in water and wastewater. Finally, some examples concerning the use of structured catalysts in photo-Fenton oxidation and the formulation of visible light-active photocatalysts in the removal of organic pollutants are presented.
