As a result of the Vesuvian eruption of 1631, a new historiographic genre was born, characterized by endless series of chronicles, letters, notices, speeches, treatises, which flourished to a considerable extent close to the Vesuvian event in much of Europe at the time. The task of this historiography will be to compare the testimonies received on the volcanic activity of Vesuvius, collected from the multiplicity of the oldest literary elements, with the most modern ones to identify the elements of permanence of the past and variation of the present. Through this non-negligible editorial action, Vesuvius, therefore, will officially enter modern history, progressively passing from a purely literary dimension to a more concretely historical one.

Abstract
As a result of the Vesuvian eruption of 1631, a new historiographic genre was born, characterized by endless series of chronicles, letters, notices, speeches, treatises, which flourished to a considerable extent close to the Vesuvian event in much of Europe at the time. The task of this historiography will be to compare the testimonies received on the volcanic activity of Vesuvius, collected from the multiplicity of the oldest literary elements, with the most modern ones to identify the elements of permanence of the past and variation of the present. Through this non-negligible editorial action, Vesuvius, therefore, will officially enter modern history, progressively passing from a purely literary dimension to a more concretely historical one.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
