The synthesis of a small molecules, combining a single oxadiazole molecule with 2 carbazole molecules with 2 different configurations. In this ambipolar molecule good electron and hole transport properties are obtained and interesting optical properties permit the realization of either blue organic emitters or UV photoreceivers. The synthesis of the molecule is described, as well as the influence of 2 specific configurations (ODC(6,4) and ODC(0,4) )on the photoluminescence and absorption spectra. While the emission peak for the ODC(6,4) molecule is centered at 425 nm, for the ODC(0,4) molecule, emission is shiftet to a higher peak wavelength value of 475 nm. The cutoff wavelength in the absorption spectrum for both small molecules, however, has the same value of about 400nm. The same molecule has been used for the realization of very different electronic devices, as OLEDs, UV-photodiodes and OFETs.
