What makes the city unsafe is not only the actual risk of being victims of predatory crimes but also the perception of insecurity that is felt in particular spaces. The latter does not correspond to the real risk and is related to urban decay and social unease that occur in various forms. The goal of making the city safer is not only achievable through control actions (police, video surveillance) or repressive. An integrated approach to security is required, which sees socioeconomic actions alongside work on the built environment, of a physical, functional and managerial nature. In this sense, the urban planning, following the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), plays a fundamental role. A methodological proposal is presented aimed at introducing actions into the municipal urban plan that allow to be increase the security of the urban space. Particular attention is paid to public spaces as a fundamental component of the elements that make up the city.
