La triade οὐσία – δύναμις – ἐνέργεια nel pensiero di Simplicio

The object of this study is the attempt to reconstruct the meaning and function of the triad οὐσία – δύναμις – ἐνέργεια in the thought of Simplicius. This triadic structure is of decisive importance in Neoplatonism, seeing as it expresses the ontological order of metaphysical realities in various ways and, above all, defines the intelligible dimension, characterized by the identity of substance, act and power. One of the more interesting aspects that is out- lined is the fact that, within the triad, the notions of δύναμις and ἐνέργεια assume a profoundly different valence from that of the original Aristotelian.
