The paper focuses on the principles of Karl Bühler’s general sematology through the main concepts presented in the Sprachtheorie (1934). According to the author, a unitary theory of language has its scientific foundation in sematology, meant as a general theory of the sign. In the articlesome important notions for semiotic reflection will be explored, such as sign, field, value and abstractive relevance, from which it is possible to deepen the themes of a Bühlerian sematology. They can be summarized in the significative and instrumental nature of language, and linguistic forms. The goal is to place the author’s work in the broad scenario of semiotic disciplines.
