This paper is focused on the use of Matlab LiveScript in linear algebra courses for freshmen, aimed at fostering a transition from an instrumental approach to a more relational one when students solve a mathematical task. To analyze students' explanatory writing of a mathematical solution text we choose a model which looks at the ATD frame, with the addition of a logical chain component, from the point of view of Grice’s maxims. The preliminary results show a transition from an instrumental approach to a relational approach, emerged from improvemed verbal arguments that make evident the relationships among the various mathematical objects.

Abstract
This paper is focused on the use of Matlab LiveScript in linear algebra courses for freshmen, aimed at fostering a transition from an instrumental approach to a more relational one when students solve a mathematical task. To analyze students' explanatory writing of a mathematical solution text we choose a model which looks at the ATD frame, with the addition of a logical chain component, from the point of view of Grice’s maxims. The preliminary results show a transition from an instrumental approach to a relational approach, emerged from improvemed verbal arguments that make evident the relationships among the various mathematical objects.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
