In this chapter, we will explore how content analysis (hereafter CA) of digital texts about sport can be combined with digital methods, e.g. by automatically extracting text data from digital social media platforms (in our case Twitter). We will also investigate how this data can be systematised and organised into structured datasets and how metadata can be used by transforming it into methodological resources. In analysing the Trending Topic case study on the controversy between Gary Lineker and the BBC, we will show how all these processes can be carried out.

Abstract
In this chapter, we will explore how content analysis (hereafter CA) of digital texts about sport can be combined with digital methods, e.g. by automatically extracting text data from digital social media platforms (in our case Twitter). We will also investigate how this data can be systematised and organised into structured datasets and how metadata can be used by transforming it into methodological resources. In analysing the Trending Topic case study on the controversy between Gary Lineker and the BBC, we will show how all these processes can be carried out.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
