Lessico alloglotto e componente romanza in ucraino

One of the features that distinguishes Ukrainian from other Eastern Slavic languages, in particular from Russian, is the lexicon, which is characterized by the active use of significant components of Romance, Germanic and West Slavic origin. At present we are not yet able to determine the exact quantity of Romance, Germanic and West Slavic lexemes in Ukrainian nor to compare this with equivalent data for Russian and Belarusian. In this contribution we primarily intend to present an overview of non-native Ukrainian vocabulary, mainly considered from a diachronic perspective. We shall then focus on the Romance lexical element in Ukrainian, which is the result of language contacts that occurred in different phases of the complex historical development of the language. The study also aims at creating the premises for further research on the Ukrainian alloglot lexis, with the goal of establishing a typology of Ukrainian based on lexical criteria.
