Some observations on phraseological research in the northwestern Černihiv Region The local dialects, spoken in the Ukrainian-Belarusian border area and located in the northwestern territory of the Region of Černihiv, have been the subject of our research over the last decade. However, so far, we have focused on more traditional linguistic aspects (e.g., phonetics, morphosyntax, etc.), more typical for dialectology, rather than phraseology. Specific studies on the dialectal phraseology of this dialectal area seem, as far as known, to be absent at present. There exist, of course, general reference and lexicographical works on Polissian dialects. In this contribution – that also represents an initial attempt to write on a phraseological topic – we first outline the state of research on East Polissian dialectal phraseology, paying specific attention to the local dialects spoken in the former district of Ripky (Černihiv). Successively, we present and analyse ten previously selected phraseological units derived from our own recorded texts and/or direct elicitation. Finally, additional phraseological units with a larger territorial diffusion are examined from a linguo-cultural point of view.
